Viviana Mackade is the talented author of Painted Heart, and today I am privileged to share with you an interview with Florence from that wonderful novel. Painted Heart is part of the box-set, Lawbreakers.
What Impression do you make on people when they first meet you, Florence?
In my before Rhett life I used to play the quiet woman, minding her own business. Nice enough. Forgettable. I needed to be seen that way.
How about after they’ve known you for a while?
I didn’t stay long enough for that.
What is your profession?
I’m a photographer. I used to moonlight as a thief. Or maybe it was the other way around.
Tell me about your best friend.
That’s Jacob, my step brother and best friend. He had my back for so many years, and was always loyal. To me, not to my cause, which made a big difference by the end of my story and for how it ended up with Rhett.
What are your thoughts on love?
Love is the most dangerous thing of all, and the most powerful. It can destroy you, or make you the happiest person on Earth.
What are your quirky habits?
I love crisps–chips, as you call them here. When I think, or work on image manipulation on my computer, I need to have at least a couple of bags near me. Rhett does not approve, by the way.
Tell us what you are most afraid of.
Not living up to Rhett. He’s a stand-up citizen, deeply involved in Crescent Creek and so much in love with it. And then there’s me. An ex thief from London.
Whatever Scott, Rhett’s brother, makes.
What do you like most about the person you fell in love with?
Rhett’s goodness. Don’t know how well it played out for him, because that quiet, good energy draws closer every battered soul within a hundred miles. But he makes it work.
Thou shalt not steal.
Oh, but Florence had, and would do so one last time.
Ten pieces her grandfather painted for her because he loved her.
Ten pieces her mother lost, along with anything else, for loving the wrong man.
She couldn’t get back everything he’d wasted away, but she’d be damned if she’d give up those paintings.
Easy and genuine, Rhett loves his life–his family, his market, his town. Until he meets a British woman with grey eyes and a cute little smile. The woman he’s been waiting for.
The thing is, to love her is easy, but can he trust her?
When Rhett pushes to uncover her agenda, Flo knows she will lose something–the man she loves or what she’d been fighting for years.
Which road will she choose?
Beach bum and country music addicted, Viviana lives in a small Floridian town with her husband and her son, her die-hard fans and personal cheer squad. She spends her days between typing on her beloved keyboard, playing in the pool with her boy, and eating whatever her husband puts on her plate (the guy is that good, and she really loves eating). Besides beaching, she enjoys long walks, horse-riding, hiking, and pretty much whatever she can do outside with her family.
